Tony Lockett has returned to the Sydney Swans as goal kicking coach 15 years after his retirement.
The AFL’s leading goal kicker (1360) had his first training session with the team on Tuesday and is sure to be an invaluable resource for superstar Buddy Franklin.
The part-time role will see the 50-year-old join the team once a fortnight in his first official position with the club since retiring.
“It’s fantastic for our players to have access to Tony during our training sessions,” coach John Longmire said.
“He obviously knows a thing or two about goal-kicking, and to be able to draw upon that experience and knowledge can only be a good thing for our players.

We’ve been wanting to get Tony back for quite a few years now.
“He seems to be keen to get involved, so it’s really good for our younger players in particular to have access to his knowledge.”
“He will be here once every couple of weeks and help with our early training sessions. He will work with players on their goal kicking. He will listen to them and get to know them and help when we can. He will be another resource and a pretty handy one.”
Longmire had made previous attempts to get him back to the club.
“For him, the timing seemed to be right,” Longmire said.
“I’ve spoken to Andrew Pridham over a few years about Tony coming back and just popping in for a training session here and there and saying G’day to the boys. It’s good to have him around. They really enjoyed having him at training.”
