Get your head out of my team.

McGuire, president of the Melbourne Stars, took exception to Lehmann’s swipe at Kevin Pietersen following his side’s BBL semi-final loss on Tuesday night.

Pietersen, who has been critical of Cricket Australia over a number of issues while commentating for Channel 10, managed just five runs prompting Lehmann to burn him on social media.

“Time for stars to move KP on. Spent too much money on him and didn't win. Don't want to listen to his excuses anymore," Lehmann wrote on Twitter.

McGuire hit back on his radio show to defend Pietersen.

"KP's not the highest paid player at the Stars for a start," McGuire said on Triple M.

"He has delivered in spades. I'm not going to have a go at Boof Lehmann, because I'm barracking for Boof Lehmann to do well.

"The last three Big Bash Leagues, KP is second only to Chris Lynn for runs scored.

"He has bought in that many people. The last two years, which team has had the biggest crowds in the history of Twenty 20 Big Bash? He is a crowd favourite.

"Why would Darren Lehmann be sticking his head into the Melbourne Stars?"
