Meninga’s opinion of Hayne is so low, the best Origin coach in history would not even have the fullback in a leadership group.

Hayne returned to the NRL towards the end of last season and has only committed to the Titans for 2017 with an option to go around again in 2018.

But as has been the case with Hayne of late, the one-time NFL player has openly spoken about his desire to play rugby union overseas.

“You don’t know, you don’t know what Jarryd’s going to do from week to week in my opinion,” Meninga told Fox Sports.

“He’s already made comments that next year he could be playing (rugby) in Toulon or playing in Japan or he could be playing NFL — we’re not quite sure what he’s going to do.

“Based on those comments he can’t be in the leadership group, he can’t be a captain, because he might not even be there.”
