The 23-year-old was struggling during the opening set of his match against world No. 72 Damir Dzumhur and became annoyed at something said to him by a spectator at the back of a grandstand.

Initially turning away from the spectator during his opponent’s service game, the live television microphones picked up Tomic’s outburst.

“Suck my balls,” Tomic was heard to say.

“I will put my balls in your mouth.”

It appeared to put Dzumhur off his game who faulted on his first serve to Tomic before the Australian continued to abuse the spectator saying “I will give you some money to make you feel good.”

Tomic went on to lose the first set 6-4.

No action was taken against the Aussie because he said comments under his breath.

Tomic discussed the spectator interference with umpire Cedric Mourier at the next change of ends, but the umpire said he was powerless to stop the spectator.

“He’s saying s*** to me,” Tomic said to the umpire.

The outburst caught the attention of viewers at home with social media lighting up.

Fellow Australian tennis star and good mate, Thanasi Kokkinakis, must have been watching and responded with ‘crying laughing’ emojis, but has since taken the tweet down.

Tomic could not immediately move on from the incident and went on to drop the second set 6-3 before finally finding his feet and sending the match into a fourth set when he broke late to take the third set 6-4.

He eventually lost the fourth 7-6, ending his US Open campaign.
