Mitchell Pearce has withdrawn just hours prior to kick-off for Monday night’s clash with Penrith.
The star No.7 has been sidelined with a calf injury.
He will be replaced by rookie Ryan Matterson who will move off the bench into the halves with NYC hooker Grant Garvey to make his NRL debut.
Garvey was set to run out for the Roosters’ under 20s side but will be rushed onto the bench for the Roosters.
The Roosters travel to play the Panthers at Pepper Stadium.
