South Sydney have sacked premiership-winning centre Kirisome Auva'a after the talented back breached the NRL’s illicit and hazardous substances policy for a second time.
His sacking follows that of teammate Paul Cater on Tuesday who was let go after breaching the club’s code of conduct.
Auva’a did not return a positive test for an illicit or hazardous substance in this instance but broke the terms of the NRL Policy.
The policy gave the Rabbitohs the option to sack Auva’a for a second breach.
Club chairman Shane Richardson confirmed the termination of the 24-year-old’s contract.
“We have given Paul all of the support, and every opportunity, to get his career and life back on track but, unfortunately, he has been unable to meet the standards we had agreed when Paul joined the club,” he said.
“This is a bigger issue than football for Paul. Needless to say, we will continue to provide welfare, support and assistance to Paul in his continuing rehabilitation.”
Auva’a was facing a mandatory 12-week suspension and had the right to appeal but failed to do so.
