Canberra will contest Jack Wighton’s shoulder charge at the NRL judiciary in a bid to allow him play in Saturday night’s final against Cronulla.
Wighton will front the NRL judiciary this week and plead Not Guilty to a Grade 2 Shoulder Charge.
Wighton was cited for the 70th minute incident during the match against the Wests Tigers on Sunday.
Wighton would have missed three weeks with an early guilty plea but will be out for four weeks if he fights the charge at the judiciary and loses, ending his season.Â
The offence carries a base penalty of 350 points but, because the player has two prior offences in the last two years, it increases to 490 points.
Wighton had been instrumental in the Raiders’ resurgence this year as the club took second place on the ladder.
