An NRL spokesman says Chris Sandow’s well-publicised public brawling will inhibit the playmaker’s ambitions to return to the Australian top-flight.
The former Parramatta and South Sydney halfback was believed to have been sought after by at least three NRL clubs, but all are likely to withdraw interest after the 27-year-old was filmed fighting on the streets of his hometwown, Cherbourg.
He has been subsequently charged with public nuisance.
"He's not part of the NRL, so we have no reason to look into it (the alleged brawl)," an NRL spokesman told News Corp Australia.
"But any player seeking to be registered needs to prove they are fit and proper to be part of the NRL.
"Having said that, there is no application to register him."
Sandow, who is currently without a club after walking out on English Super League club Warrington, is set to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 10.
Footage of the incident appears to show Sandow throwing punches as a crowd watches on.
