Matt Scott edges closer to return for preliminary final.
Paul Green says Matt Scott is “in the frame” to lace up for Saturday night’s grand final qualifier against the Roosters.
Scott has been sidelined for seven months after undergoing knee surgery but could run out at Allianz Stadium.
The prop was originally named on an extended bench as cover for Cohen Hess who injured his knee in last weekend’s convincing win over Parramatta.
But the premiership-winning prop is firming to play and would be a massive boost for the Queenslanders who are skinny in the front-row stocks.
Should he play, Scott would likely play two stints at the back end of each half.
“He’s certainly done the work to get himself to a point where he would be fit to play a role,” the Cowboys coach told Big Sports Breakfast radio.
“How long that is off the bench, or whatever that may be ... he’s a welcome addition, certainly gives the boys a boost having him around the group.
“We’ll see what happens.”
Roosters coach Trent Robinson accused the Cowboys of playing mind games and even went as far to say North Queensland should not be considered huge underdogs despite being without their chief playmaker Johnathan Thurston.
