Billy Slater has endorsed Ryley Jacks as the team’s five-eighth following an injury to Cameron Munster.
Jacks started the Round 3 encounter against Brisbane at No.6 with Munster at fullback and Slater on the bench.
But with Munster injured during the match, Jacks, playing in just his third NRL game, took control and scored a crucial try to help his team to a 14-12 win over the Broncos.
Slater, who played his first game in more than a year, said with Munster set to spend up to six weeks out, Jacks had the ability to slot in at five-eighth.
“I don’t think we would have won if Ryley Jacks wasn’t on the field,” Slater said. “He’s done a great job for the first three weeks and I anticipate he’ll hold his place in the team now that Cameron’s injured.

“But that’s part and parcel with playing football – someone’s misfortune is someone’s fortune and Cameron has probably had that with me over the past couple of seasons.”
Slater played 50 minutes of the match and looked in good touch, albeit a little rusty after playing just two games in close to two years.
Slater said with the first game back since injury out of the way, he was looking forward building on his first outing as he aims to return to his electrifying best.
“I will be able to concentrate on my performances now,” Slater said.
“There was a fair bit of hype this week.”
