Stewart managed just 11 games in 2016 due to a chronic knee injury and was given extended leave to rest and recuperate.

The two-time premiership-winner was well below his best last season but is desperate to honour the final year of his contract.

The flyer will start training at the club’s Narrabeen base as he looks to return to the field in 2017.

Extensive training will give Stewart and the club a fair idea of how the knee is going and if he is up to the rigours of NRL.
