Chris Sandow will not be heading to Melbourne in 2017 with the club confirming it is out of the race to sign the playmaker.
Sandow walked away from the final year of his Warrington Super League contract and was linked to a possible move to Melbourne.
But Storm head of football Frank Ponissi said the men in purple were not an option for the former Parramatta halfback who has spoken of his desire to return to the NRL.
“It’s exciting to see Chris Sandow possibly return to the NRL next year, but it won’t be with Melbourne,” Ponissi told foxpsorts.com.au.
“We’re definitely not an option for him. We’ve got Coops and Munster as our first two options, and also Jahrome Hughes who has moved from Townsville and Riley Jacks from the Sunshine Coast Falcons that have joined us from Queensland Cup.
“We’ve also put plenty of time into and are excited by two young guys in Brodie Croft and Scott Drinkwater, who are still raw and young.
“We’re very comfortable between the six of them, and Jackson Hastings, he’s a very talented young player, but we’re more than covered for his positions.”
