Sam Thaiday is set to undergo surgery in London to repair a fractured eye socket and cheekbone suffered in Australia’s 38-16 win over England.
He will miss Sunday’s Four Nations final against New Zealand after colliding with England’s Wade Graham.
Thaiday’s wife Rachel confirmed the prognosis on social media.
“Hopefully this is not too gory for people but this is my husband’s face at the moment,” she wrote.
“He had an almighty head collision in the Aussie game.
“He is one sad guy right now, sad to miss playing in the GF next weekend representing his country and sad to be so far from home.”
Thaiday will hopefully be cleared to fly home with the team next Monday.
