Is Eagleby the geographic heart of the Queensland Maroons?
Inside Sport thinks it just may have stumbled upon most parochial suburb in Brisbane and its surrounds, especially when it comes to honouring the legends of Queensland rugby league.
Eagleby, located about 50 minutes’ drive south of Brisbane (kind’ve smack-bang between Bris Vegas and Surfers), has streets which carry the surnames of Queensland rugby league legends such as Beetson, Dowling, Miles, Vautin, Hauff, Lindner, Bella and Carne.
We searched the web for reasons why THESE legends’ names in particular were chosen for their respective streets, but we found nothing. Anyone know of any redeeming career characteristic which links these names? Maybe all these players have some special link with Eagleby? Or maybe the person who hands out street names just really loved these players as a kid. Maybe the streets aren’t named after rugby league players at all! We’ve love to know.
