AUSTRALIAN MASTERS GAMES: A SNAPSHOT
The Australian Masters Games is this country’s largest multi-sport event. It promotes the important contribution made by Masters athletes to the Australian community, providing a wonderful platform for some 10,000 Masters athletes from over 50 sports to showcase their enthusiasm and talent. The Australian Masters Games has been held for almost 30 years and has provided a major legacy to Australian community sport.
The Masters Games has been held every two years since 1987. Since those first Games held in Tasmania, more than 115,000 athletes have participated, over 18,000 volunteers have supported the events and some $160m has been generated to the benefit of local communities.
The 15th Australian Masters Games will be held in Adelaide from October 3-10 this year. “Adelaide is arguably the spiritual home of the Australian Masters Games as the SA Government has hosted the event on six occasions,” says CAS CEO Rob Bradley. “This year’s event is shaping up to be the best Masters Games ever, with strong registrations and a fabulous entertainment schedule planned for the week.”
The Australian Masters Games is a proud product of the great work by the Confederation of Australian Sport.
