Titans coach Neil Henry says his team must “fight fire with fire” if it is to overcome the Broncos juggernaut in Friday’s sudden death final in Brisbane.
The Gold Coast has traditionally struggled against its big brother, especially at Suncorp Stadium with the Titans expected to be greeted by a parochial Broncos crowd of 50,000.
The Gold Coast have won just five of its past 20 matches against Brisbane and have only won three of its past 16 matches at Suncorp Stadium.
Henry said it would be foolish to allow the struggles of the past play a role in his side’s preparation for its clash with last year’s grand finalist.
“I think those records go out the door don’t they when you get into a sudden death game,” he said.
“We were competitive there earlier in the season and beat them at CBUS last year so this is a new ball game.”

The Broncos have been blowing teams off the park early with sides chasing their tails to make up valuable points, allowing Brisbane to set the pace for many of its matches.
Henry said his side must start well on Friday night and assert istelf or face the prospect of saying goodbye to season 2016.
“Slow starts and conceding points early has been a problem for us, hanging in hasn't been and we will need that as well,” he said.
“They are on the back of a few wins in a row and were tremendous against the Storm and gritty against the Roosters too.
“They are in some form and have a bit of momentum and we will have to arrest their early form on the field and match fire with fire.”
