His campaign starts at next month’s Brisbane International with the 24-year-old hoping to eclipse his semi-final showing at last year’s event.

But he knows to do that he will have to be in the right headspace.

Tomic caused headlines this year when he abused a fan at the US Open as well as trading barbs with Australian Olympic boss Kitty Chiller before ending his season early with an abdominal injury.

But after soaring to a career-high ranking of 17 in 2016, Tomic says he is ready to make a charge up the world rankings and put the controversy behind him.

“That situation, those few weeks where I missed the Olympics was unfortunate, and the US thing was a bit of an incident, but we’ve moved on from that,’’ he told the Courier Mail.

“I’m not the best, not the brightest, but we all have our problems.

“I think the main thing is I’m doing what I love and I really respect the sport.’’
