Lloyd Williams has become the most successful owner in Melbourne Cup history with Almandin helping him to a record fifth win.
Almandin held out Heartbreak City with Hartnell taking the minor placing.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy rode his second winner of the iconic race after leading Brew to victory in the 2000 edition.
Almandin ($11) sat midfield before kicking on the straight to run down a fast-finishing Heartbreak City ($19).
McEvoy paid tribute to Williams for his vision in producing yet another Melbourne Cup champion.
“Lloyd, he knows what to do in these staying races. It’s just a dream. It’s great to be part of it again for my second Cup,” McEvoy said.
