Australia’s A tour to South Africa has been officially called off due to the ongoing pay dispute.

The Australian Cricketers’ Association has confirmed that players are boycotting the tour given the fact a new Memorandum of Understanding has still not been agreed with Cricket Australia.

Pay talks have stalled with regards a new deal and the ACA insists stars such as Glenn Maxwell and Usman Khawaja are unhappy at having to refuse to play.

"It is with great frustration that with no progress towards resolving the current dispute, Australia A players confirm they will not tour South Africa," the ACA said in a statement.

“By making this call, the Australia A players have sacrificed their own ambitions for the collective; an incredibly selfless act that shows their strength and overall commitment to the group.

“All players are deeply disappointed at the behaviour of CA which forces this course of action, given the players would rather be playing for their country.”

The tour was due to start next Wednesday, with two four-day matches on the schedule in Pretoria before a limited overs tri-series that was also set to feature India’s A team.

Cricket Australia responded to the news by claiming the tour could and should still have gone ahead while talks over a new MOU continued.

"Cricket Australia is disappointed that players have today confirmed that they are unwilling to take part in the Australia A tour of South Africa," a statement said.

"CA has never and would never attempt to compel any player to represent Australia at any level if they were unwilling to do so.

"Cricket Australia regrets that players have made this decision despite progress made in talks between CA and the ACA in meetings over the past week. While a new MOU has not yet been agreed, CA is of the view that these talks should have enabled the tour to proceed as planned."
