Benji Marshall will play his first competition game since joining the Broncos when he runs out for Redcliffe against the Capras in the Queensland Cup this weekend.
Marshall has been battling an achilles tendinitis injury but trained strongly at Brisbane's captain's run on Thursday morning.
Broncos coach Wayne Bennett confirmed the former Golden Boot winner was not in contention for Brisbane’s Friday night blockbuster against the Cowboys.
"He'll play this weekend, but he won't play NRL," Bennett said.
"He just can't make the squad at the moment.
"Benji just wants to be at a good club and get an opportunity and those things will happen. He's at a good club and he's more than happy to play where he has to play.
"I just want him to go back and play some football."
Marshall, 32, joined the Broncos on a one-year deal worth about $100,000.
He knocked back a deal with the Dragons early last year worth about $300,000 a season.
