Bulldogs chairman Ray Dib has responded to the lawsuit against the club brought on by former coach Des Hasler.
Hasler is reportedly seeking $2.4 million after being booted from the club in September despite agreeing to terms with the club until the end of 2019 earlier in the season.
The club claims those terms were not legally binding with Hasler lodging a claim with the Supreme Court on Monday.
“This week the club received court documents filed by Des Hasler’s lawyers,” Dib said.
“The club intends to defend the matter. Given that the matter is now before the courts, it is not appropriate for any further comment to be made by the club regarding the dispute.”
But on April 3 the Bulldogs confirmed Hasler’s extension via a press release and press conference.
"Coach Des Hasler will remain with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs for the next two years after signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2019 season," the club said in that April statement.
However, after Hasler was sacked, Dib claimed the deal was not legally binding.
"Des's current contract expires October 2017," Dib said in September.
"The board has made the decision not to renew that contract and going forward there will be no liabilities for the club for the next two years."
A directions hearing is set for December 1.
