Sam Burgess has expressed interest in joining a New York-based rugby league club.
An NYC consortium is hoping to enter the Championship, one tier below the Super League, in 2019 and has a financial backing of US$10 million.
The New York bid follows the success of the Toronto Wolfpack who will play in next year’s Championship with former NRL stars Fuifui Moimoi and Dave Taylor as the club attempts to gain promotion to the Super League.
The proposed franshise has already confirmed it will target Jarryd Hayne who poses a huge drawcard to US audiences after a stint in the NFL with San Francisco which made him one of the most talked about sports stars in America.
Burgess said the lure of living and playing in the Big Apple would be a huge drawcard for players.
"How good's that?" Burgess told Fairfax Media.
"New York, I'm sure there'll be plenty of players putting their hands up to go play over there. It would be a great place to live, to play the game, to travel.
"It's pretty exciting. Toronto is a reality, they've attracted some big talent. Dave Taylor's going there next year, big Coaltrain.
"When you're getting to the back end of your career … it's an opportunity … I'll see how my body's holding up."
