Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has responded to calls for his axing following Australia’s dismal recent Test performances.
Sutherland was quizzed on Wednesday whether he should continue in the role in light of Australia’s Test series loss to South Africa making it five Test losses on the trot.
"Ultimately that's a decision for the board if I'm the right person," Sutherland said in Hobart on Wednesday.
"Things have been highlighted that we need to explore.
"We'll take responsibility and try to understand things better.”
Australia fell to the Proteas by an innings and 80 runs in one of the most embarrassing displays on home soil.
Captain Steve Smith indicated selectors were not delivering the teams he wanted which has some calling for a total overhaul of CA’s systems.
And while he acknowledged something needed to be done to turn the nation’s cricketing fortunes around, he rejected talks of a formal review.
"We're lucky to be a top-10 side at the moment but I also believe that sticking by the process, the players can work through that and turn that around,” he said.
"We all need to ask ourselves some questions - why and how has this happened?
"It is a very significant fall from grace. But Australian cricket, broadly speaking is in good shape".
