Eels interim CEO Bevan Paul has contradicted claims by Jarryd Hayne that his former club failed to table him an offer.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Hayne claimed to have waited a month for an offer from Parramatta which he said never came.
The Eels boss released a statement Wednesday saying a deal was offered but was ultimately knocked back by Hayne’s management.
“The Parramatta Eels did communicate an offer to Jarryd Hayne’s management in the past 48 hours,” Paul said.
“This offer was made after reviewing the consequences of the NRL Salary Cap decision and the importance of maintaining a strong roster for 2017 and 2018.
“While it was a substantial offer, we were advised by Jarryd’s management that it was not comparable to the other proposals.
“The Club wishes Jarryd well in his future endeavours.”
Hayne signed a two-year-deal with the Gold Coast Titans worth up to $1.2 million a season.
