Edwards is alleged to have poured water and alcohol over a 26-year-old woman during an incident last Sunday.

The 27-year-old hardman will be permitted to train with the top squad as the matter is investigated.

“Kenny was involved in an incident last weekend and has been charged with domestic violence. Kenny appeared in Parramatta Court this morning and the case will be held at a later date,” the statement read.

“The club views this incident as extremely serious and immediately alerted the NRL Integrity Unit, as per our normal process.

“While the legal process is being handled by external authorities, Kenny will be able to continue to train and play as per the NRL Code of Conduct.

“The club will continue to provide Kenny, his partner and children with all available welfare services.

“Our Club is committed to respecting the legal process. In addition, I want to emphasize that all players and staff at the Parramatta Eels are individually accountable for their actions.”

The controversy is the latest in a woeful 2016 for the club which had points stripped for breaching the salaray cap while also dealing with a number of other off-field issues.
