Parramatta coach Brad Arthur has confirmed the club is making a play to bring Jarryd Hayne home.
The release of Kieran Foran has freed up $1 million in the Eels’ salary cap which they intend to use to lure the former NRL superstar back.
But with the club’s salary cap for 2017 yet to be resolved, Arthur said there was still some uncertainty regarding how much money the club had to spend for next season.
The uncertainty relates to illegal TPA’s.
Confirmation of the club’s financial position for 2017 is expected next week.
“We’re in a position to recruit. We still haven’t got 100 per cent clarity around our salary cap position and that might be another week away,” Arthur told Fox Sports’ The Matty Johns Show.
“So until then it’s hard to come up with a plan.
“I’ve got a good relationship with Jarryd. We’d love to have him back at the club. If he wants to play for Parramatta we’re going to try and do what we can.
“But at the end of the day it’s really important that Jarryd makes his decision on does he want to play rugby league or rugby union.
“And then when he makes that decision hopefully we’re in a position to nut something out with him.”
The club continued their cleanout with seven front office staff made redundant including chief operating officer Craig Beed and CEO of controversial networking organisation The Premiership Club John Chedid.
