Roger Federer will contest the Hopman Cup instead of the Brisbane International as part of his preparations for the 2017 Australian Open.
The 35-year-old had competed in Brisbane for the past three seasons, an event he won in 2015.
The world No.3 said he would be heading to Perth to link with Belinda Benic for next year's Hopman Cup.
Federer last played at the Hopman Cup in 2001, claiming his maiden professional title as a 19-year-old alongside Martina Hingis.
“I remember that it was a good preparation, way back when, so I thought it would be nice to do it again,” Federer said.
“Plus I was watching the telly this year from Brisbane and watching the great atmosphere that was at the Hopman Cup when Nick (Kyrgios) was playing and (Andy) Murray was playing and I though it would be cool to be part of that.
“I like to play in new places, if you know how my mind works, it’s always very exciting so I can’t wait.”
