Gould is the greatest ever Blues coach and has been scathing of his assessment of the state’s Origin woes to the point where he admitted he would be reluctant to let his Panthers players be exposed to NSW’s current culture.

Gallen, who has been criticised by Gould in the past, said it was time for Gould to put his money where his mouth was.

“I’d love to see him pick up the phone, ring someone at the (NSWRL),” Gallen told Channel Nine on Sunday.

“If he really cares about NSW and wants to see them going well — this is NSW’s greatest ever time of need for the greatest ever coach, I think he should step up a little bit and help out.

“This is NSW’s greatest ever coach. For me if Gus Gould picked up the phone to Laurie Daley or anyone at NSW there, and said this is what I think should happen, this is what I think should change, I’m sure they would listen."

Gould recently said NSW need a “career coach” after Laurie Daley’s meagre five-year tenure as coach which garnered just one series win.

“We’re all here to help... but I do believe they need a coach or a former coach overseeing the whole program,” Gould said.

“For now, they need to revisit the idea of a professional coach overseeing the whole program.

“Craig Bellamy’s got the best coaching record in history, so if he is available and wants to do it, then that’s a beauty. If Des Hasler’s available and wants to do it, that’s a beauty.”
