Jarryd Hayne has reportedly shaken hands with the Eels and is set to request a release from the Titans.
The Daily Telegraph reports Hayne will wait until January to formally ask for a release while pocketing two monthly payments at $90,000 a pop.
Hayne is currently on World Cup duty with Fiji and isn't due back to Titans training until January.
The 29-year-old’s Parramatta deal is expected to be around $500,000 a season- markedly less than his current wage of $1.2 million a year at the Gold Coast.
Eels coach Brad Arthur was coy when asked about the chances of securing Hayne for 2018.
“If Jarryd wants to come and play on our terms and if he gets released, we’ll obviously be looking at it. We’ll see what happens.”
The report says Hayne's deal at his childhood club is all but done, however, the star has denied he is leaving the Glitter Strip.
He recently tweeted: “I have NOT instructed my manger to SPEAK to teams in Sydney.”
The NRL reportedly want to leave the decision with new Gold Coast owners as the club readies to be sold to a consortium as soon as next week.
Hayne joined the Titans at the back end of the 2016 season with the star showing only glimpses of the talent that made him the game’s biggest star before leaving for a stint in the NFL.
However, Hayne has been in good form throughout the Rugby League World Cup for Fiji including their 4-2 quarter-final win over New Zealand.
Fiji face Australia in Friday night’s semi-final.
More to come.
