A NSW police spokesman said a 42-year-old man was charged on Thursday afternoon after attending Manly Police Station.

He was charged with contravening an Apprehended Personal Violence Order, intimidation and stealing.

The former Manly and Wests player was refused police bail and will face Manly Local Court on Friday.

The NSW and Australian representative is no stranger to controversy after a chequered playing career that included several suspensions.

He was famously rubbed out for 12 matches while playing for the Tigers for poking opposition players up the bottom.
