Former NRL star Jamal Idris is close to joining the Wests Tigers.
Idris left the Panthers in 2015 after becoming disillusioned with the game and spent most of the past 12 months travelling while deciding his future.
The 26-year-old, who played 131 NRL games over eight years, met with Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe to discuss a return to the game in 2017.
Pascoe was CEO at the Panthers when Idris left the club.
Pascoe confirmed the Tigers were interested in signing the New South Wales and Australia centre.
"I understand the power and potential that Jamal has," Pascoe told Fox Sports.
“He’s still a young man and if talks continue, he’ll be a welcomed addition.”
Idris also played with Canterbury and the Gold Coast.
He made his NRL debut for Canterbury as an 18-year-old while still in high school.
