Nick Kyrgios is seeking a mentor but says any potential coach needs to be the “right person” as the wayward star looks to centre his abilities effectively ahead of this week’s Davis Cup.
Kyrgios ranks as Australia’s best Davis Cup team member but has not played since his early exit from the Australian Open.
At the time his former coach said the tennis ace trained less than "15 minutes a day".
And after copping a ban last year the 21-year-old, the only top 20 player without a coach, confirmed he is looking for a mentor.
“It’s finding someone who has my best interest at heart and it’s tough to find someone on the team who’s willing to care about me as a person first,” Kyrgios said on Tuesday.
Kyrgios said he was feeling good about being back in the Australian team environment ahead of this week’s fixtures against the Czech Republic.
“I think playing Davis Cup is going to improve my general well-being,” he said.
“This week it’s good chemistry. It’s a good environment and makes me happy being with these guys and getting out on the practice court and training because usually when I’m by myself I struggle to find the motivation.
“I was obviously struggling (at the Australian Open), mentally it was tough but I’ve had a lot of support and obviously Rusty (Hewitt) has been helping me though it and I think this week is crucial for me to bounce back and go out to try to enjoy it again and I feel good.”
