Nathan Lyon is fighting to hold his place in Australia’s Test side after recording figures of 1-115 at the MCG against Pakistan.
The sums amount to an average of five an over as Pakistan easily pushed his deliveries to the leg side.
Coach Darren Lehmann says the spinner is still regarded highly, but stressed the 200-plus Test wicket-tacker had to improve.
“I think he is bowling well in patches and that’s the thing. Get him bowling well and more consistent over a longer period of time, that’s his challenge,” Lehmann on Nine.
“He has taken over 200 Test wickets so he knows what he is doing. He just has to get it in the right area and hitting the top of off stump, or spinning back into the stumps, as we know.
“When he gets it right, he looks dangerous.
“They traditionally (work him to leg side) the sub-continent teams.
“That’s a challenge for Nathan and us as a group to give up a better plan that’s going to work.”
