Manly CEO Scott Penn expects NSW Police to conclude their investigation into the club’s alleged involvement with match-fixing soon.
The Sea Eagles have been heavily linked to the saga after some of their matches were put under the microscope.
Penn said he had received an update from investigators.
“We’ve engaged with the Authorities recently to understand where it is at and our understanding is that in the near future the match-fixing investigation will be closed, so that’s up to them to come out with,” Penn said.
“But, we don’t believe there will be anything that comes from that from a club perspective.”
Another cloud hanging over the club’s head is a separate salary cap investigation.
Penn said the club had handed over everything the NRL had asked for and were co-operating.
However, Penn does not expect the NRL to wrap up proceedings any time soon with a result expected following the finals series.
“The salary cap investigation is ongoing and I spoke to Todd (Greenberg) last week and said ‘we have given you everything we possibly can, where are we at?’,” Penn said.
“It’s unlikely anything’s going to happen this side of the finals so we are probably looking at the off-season at this point. But, once again, we are confident. Our corporate governance is strong and we have given them everything – there is nothing more to give and hopefully we will be exonerated in due course.
“We know we are one of the clubs with the least third party agreements of any club so I think it would be most surprising.”
