The 31-year-old is off contract at the end of the year and is yet to find a home for 2017.

Marshall was axed following the Dragons' loss to the Roosters and marks the first time he has been dropped during his NRL career.

Marshall had an outstanding 2015 and finished equal second in the race for the Dally M Medal behind Johnathan Thurston after helping the Dragons to the finals.

But the premiership winner has failed to recapture that sparkling form on the back of hamstring problems.

The former Kiwi international is likely to be replaced in the halves by young gun Drew Hutchison.

“The Dragons don’t owe me anything. If anything I owe them for the opportunity to be back here playing in the NRL,” Marshall told Channel Seven.

“There is a fair chance that I am not going to be here next year so they need to probably have a look at some of those guys who are.

“And if they do, like I said to the coach this morning, if he goes that way I am not going to throw stones.”
