Reports state he is allowed to box in California.

McGregor has taunted Mayweather about a match-up saying “Give Floyd a shout, tell him I’m coming” and it looks as though it could happen.

California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster told ESPN:

“He’s qualified (as a boxer)”.

“I’d love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent. Certainly a high-level opponent. We’re happy to license him. We’re happy he’s a California fighter.”

McGregor’s coach weighed in on the possibility of a Mayweather match-up and said he wouldn’t be surprised to see a fight in 2017.

“If the odds were good enough, I’d put a few quid on it for next year,” he told the Sun.

“I’m not breaking any news saying that there’s conversations going back and forth for the last year or so.

“He (Mayweather) is 49-0. I’m sure he wants that 50th fight. It’s a nice number.”

McGregor publicly baited Mayweather after winning UFC 205 stating:

“Much respect to Floyd,” McGregor said. “He’s a solid businessman. What he’s been able to do – he’s a f***ing animal at what he’s been able to do.

“But as far as real fighting – true, pure unarmed combat – Floyd don’t want none of this. Give Floyd a shout; tell him I’m coming. Tell him to run around Showtime offices. I want $100 million to fight him under boxing rules because he’s afraid of a real fight.”

Mayweather retired with a 49-0 record and has sparked speculation of a bout by telling TMZ:

“If you say he’s the Floyd Mayweather of the MMA, I’m trying to find out have you ever made $300 million in one night? Have you ever made $100 million in one night? Have you ever made $70 million in one night. So as far as saying he’s the Floyd Mayweather of MMA — it’s OK to say it but it’s not true.”
