Bulldogs winger Sam Perrett has called time on his 13-year NRL career and will officially hang up the boots at the end of 2016.
The 31-year-old debuted for the Sydney Roosters in 2004 before joining the Bulldogs mid-way through the 2012 season.
He has so far made 254 NRL appearances and scored 90 tries during a decorated career that has seen him represent New Zealand on 21 occasions.
He has played in two losing grand finals for the Bulldogs (2012, 2014) and is intent on helping Canterbury make a charge to the 2016 premiership.
“I’m not aiming for anything less,” Perrett said.
“I’m going to give my best for the last eight weeks and I’ll be giving everything I’ve got to get that title.”
Perrett said he thought long and hard before making a call on his future.
“It’s been a tough decision and an emotional one, but it’s time for me to hang up the boots,” he said.
“This year will be my last season playing rugby league and it’s been such an amazing journey.
“I’m so grateful and thankful for the relationships that I have, the teammates I have played alongside and against, the coaching staff that have helped me along the way and my family for everything they’ve gone through.
“My family has put in a lot of time and sacrifice to support me and it’s time to move onto the next phase of my life, which I’m really excited about.”
