ARLC Chairman Peter V'landys is confident the NRL will resume on May 28 – but NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian claims her cabinet has not given it the go-ahead.
The NRL seem increasingly assured that the code will resume in late May which has caused divided opinions within Australia.
Following Prime Minister Scott Morrison stating that the competition wouldn't receive special treatment, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has supported his comments.
“If you’re asking me whether the NSW government has formally given approval, the short answer is no," Berejiklian said on the ABC.
“The organisation has to show that they’re compliant to the health rules and if they don’t, they don’t proceed. If they do well, good luck to them or any other organisation.”
These comments reflect upon the more sterner stance north of the border.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk firmly denied earlier in the week that players from the three clubs in her state would be exempt from interstate travel regulations.
“They would not meet the criteria (to cross the border) and secondly we need to make sure we have clear health advice,” Palaszczuk said.
“And I say to all the sporting organisations: let’s just take a break. Let’s get this ‘flattening the curve’ under control. And then we can talk to the health officers about getting advice.
"Let’s not rush this. Let’s take it slowly.”
ARLC Chairman Peter V'landys believes the competition has already been given the approval by "necessary departments".
NSW police commissioner Mick Fuller, who has been placed in charge of the state’s response to COVID-19 stated in a letter addressed to the chairman that the NRL wouldn't be impeding on any legalities should it resume.
V'landys told the ABC: “We do have to show our plans and our actions. I’ve got to say from the outset this is six weeks away, it’s not tomorrow or next week.
"There’s six weeks of more data and more looking at the health measures we will put in place."
