The NRL has backed the construction of Australia’s first synthetic rugby league field to be built in Western Sydney.
It will cost $6 million and will be located at Kellyville Ridge Reserve with construction to commence in February with an approximate one-year build.
"This is another significant investment by our game to ensure that we continue to support the growth and participation of Rugby League throughout Western Sydney," NRL chief Brian Canavan said.
Panthers boss Phil Gould said the synthetic field was a huge step forward for the game.

"Congratulations to the Blacktown Council and the NRL representatives who have worked so hard to make this wonderful facility possible," he said.
"This innovative synthetic playing field will provide tremendous benefits to the local community.
"We are delighted to have this revolutionary playing field in the Penrith District Junior Rugby League area."
Synthetic sports fields are believed to allow for up to three times more usage than advanced natural grass fields.
