Negotiations are underway to make Mitchell Pearce a Rooster for life.
The 27-year-old is off-contract at the end of next season and is among $5 million of Roosters talent yet to commit past 2017.
Pearce is expected to command about $1 million a season and is looking at signing a four-year-deal.
“We’ve had a couple of discussions,” Pearce told foxsports.com.au.
“I’d love to stay. I want to stay at the Roosters and hopefully we can get it worked out soon.”
Pearce, who turns 28 in April, is one of the most experienced halfbacks in the NRL having played 215 games for the Roosters and representing NSW on 15 occasions.
And after last year’s infamous drunken Australia Day escapade which resulted in an eight-week suspension at the start of 2016 and severely impeded his club’s season, Pearce said he wanted to repay the Roosters.
“Loyalty is a thing for me,” he said.
“Do I feel like I owe the club? I definitely feel I need to have a big year this year to repay the club for last year.
“I only played half the season last year and my job is to get wins and lead us to the finals. I have plenty of motivation to play well and repay the club for the support they showed me.”
