The NRL Grand Final will remain in Sydney while Allianz and ANZ Stadiums are rebuilt, ruling out any hopes of Queensland hosting the big dance.
State of Origin will also be played in Sydney after the NSW Government confirmed both stadiums will be demolished and rebuilt as a cost of $2.3 billion.
The stadiums won't be in use in 2020 making for ideal timing for Queensland to host a maiden NRL Grand Final.
However, any hope was scuppered after NRL boss Todd Greenberg confirmed the grand final would be played at the SCG in 2020.
Both stadiums will take three years to build with work on Allianz Stadium to commence in 2019 followed by the former Olympic Stadium which will begin construction the following year.
The NSWRL and NRL could not confirm where the 2020 Origin Series will be played in Sydney, but did state it would likely be hosted at the SCG.
"A minimum of one State of Origin during that term will be played in Sydney," Greenberg said.
"Our preference has always been to get a stadium network in Sydney that delivers the very best entertainment experience.
"That's exactly what the government's delivered on today. This is a momentous day for the state of NSW, also for rugby league, players, clubs and most importantly rugby league fans.
"They will have a chance to go to three of the best stadiums purpose-built for rectangular sport."
The Roosters have already confirmed they will take their games to the SCG from 2019.
