Exclusive: The Sydney Roosters want to bring Huddersfield fullback Jake Mamo back to the NRL next year.
Mamo is off-contract and is attracting interest from other Super League and NRL clubs.
Inside Sport understands the Roosters are interested in signing Mamo and potentially shifting him to the wing, with James Tedesco entrenched in the number one jersey.
The Sydney-based club have had talks with the Australian’s management.
The 23-year-old joined the Giants in Super League last year from the Newcastle Knights. Despite several injury problems, he scored 12 tries in just nine appearances in 2017.
But this year Mamo has been unable to recapture the same form in the UK. The outside back has only crossed twice in eight games this season and has only one try assist.
Mamo has often been selected on the wing, with fellow Australian Jordan Rankin preferred at fullback.
Huddersfield have struggled for results this season and sacked their head coach Rick Stone, who brought Mamo to the club, in March. The Giants have only managed four wins from 15 Super League games so far.
Inside Sport understands that the fullback wants to leave Huddersfield. Media reports have also linked Mamo with a possible move to Castleford.
Mamo broke into the NRL with Newcastle in 2014. He came through the Knights’ lower grade system and scored 11 tries in 29 NRL appearances.
