The Russian flag will be flying at the Olympics and athletes may be allowed to compete on the world’s biggest sporting stage despite an ongoing drug scandal.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it will not impose a blanket ban on Russia and instead leave decisions regading participation to the relevant sports federations.
The World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) has called for a Rio ban in response to the independant McLaren Report that found eveidence of state-sponsored doping by Russian athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The world governing body met on Sunday and decided that responsibility for ruling on the eligibility of Russians remains with the international federations.
The Olympics opening ceremony is on August 5.
