The TCR Series is scheduled to run at all Shannons Nationals events, kicking off at Sydney Motorsport Park in May.

Race formats and specific series regulations are yet to be finalised; likewise negotiations over the television broadcast rights are ongoing.

Shannons Nationals director Mike Smith said he was delighted to add the TCR Australia Series to the Nationals schedule in 2019.

“There is a genuine excitement about this category coming to Australia and we can’t wait to host what will be a really competitive and accessible category on some of the best tracks in Australia,” he said.

“In 2019, our expanded seven-round calendar promises to deliver a really diverse range of motor sport, featuring some new categories, like TCR, as well as categories that already have a strong following.

“After significant investment in our media product for the Nationals this year, we’re expecting an even better product to showcase some terrific motor sport, including TCR, in 2019 and beyond.”

TCR is a quasi international touring car formula catering for small and mid-sized sedans and hatches (using production-based turbocharged engines of up to 2-litres) and employing a technical rules framework designed to keep costs down. Currently there are four internationally sanctioned TCR Series running in the world, along with 12 national or regional series which use the TCR regulations as their main rule book.

Several race-ready TCR cars – including from Audi, Volkswagen, Honda and Hyundai – have either already arrived in Australia or are on the way.
