S5000 openwheelers set for Sandown debut
The new S5000 open wheeler racing category will make its historic debut at Sandown this weekend. A field of 13 S5000 cars, headed by former Ferrari F1 driver Rubens Barrichello, will take to the Sandown track for the first race for these Australian-developed machines. Boasting state-of-the-art open wheeler technology and a powerful 5.0-litre V8 engine, S5000 is easily the fastest motor racing category in Australia outside of Formula 1 and the cars are expected to smash outright lap records at almost every circuit they visit.

McLaughlin straight ahead at the Bend
Scott McLaughlin's dominance of the 2019 Supercars season continued at Tailem Bend where the DJR Team Penske Ford Mustang driver scored a clean sweep of victories across the two days. Sunday's victory was McLaughlin's ninth across the last 11 starts, and his 16th win from the 22 races held so far in this year's championship.

Verstappen's victory was not without controversy, the Dutchman waiting some hours after the race for confirmation while stewards investigated his overtaking move on Charles Leclerc that saw the latter's Ferrari bundled off the circuit.

Lewis Hamilton was a controversial winner of the Canadian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver finishing second on the road behind Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel but inheriting the win after Vettel was given a post-race five-second penalty. Vettel received the penalty for what Stewards deemed as an unsafe re-entry to the track after the Ferrari slid off the circuit. The error occurred while Hamilton was chasing the Ferrari, the two cars almost colliding as Vettel rejoined the race.

Jason Bright topped the 17-car field in the opening race in his Volkswagen but Hyundai driver Will Brown was triumphant in both Sunday races. Next round of the TCR Australia Touring Car Series is at Phillip Island on June 8-9.
