Beardy’s tech tips when shooting

* Shoot RAW for more detail and editing ability.

* Use Photoshop or Lightroom for editing to get the most out of your files.

* Keep that lens clean. Sweaty cycling hands and lenses don’t mix.

* Keep shutter speeds above 1/1600th of a second for sharp images.

* Don’t over-expose skies. RAW files preserve detail in shadows so it’s better to go slightly under-exposed than over.

Beardy’s tips for framing and composition

* Look for the best light, which is often early morning or late afternoon.

* Get off the bike and off the road - never let cycling shoes stop you from climbing a tree or cliff face to find a new angle.

* Don’t be afraid to shoot into the sun - backlit images can become some of your favourites.

* Find a new angle, be it high or low.

* Practice makes perfect. You don’t get on a bike for the first time and ride 100km, and it’s the same with photography.

* Got a reco day? Do a “photo ride”
