An investigation into corruption and match-fixing within Australian tennis has uncovered a "tsunami" of corrupt practices.
Tennis has one of the highest gambling rates among global sports, due to short bet-friendly points and the easy accumulation of statistics.
Gamblers are able to bet on the outcome of individual points for very low-level matches, which leads to an increased risk of match-fixing at the sport's lower levels, as syndicates aim to encourage players to lose particular points, or matches, to collect on bets.
The Independent Review of Integrity released an interim report into investigations over corruption in Australian tennis, which first surfaced during the Australian Open two years ago. The report found Tennis Australia faces "very significant" integrity issues.
The report recommended greater monitoring of low-level tennis matches,a review of appearance fees and the ranking system.
