Rumours have been rife Hasler would be let go at the end of this season with some even suggesting the two-time premiership coach won’t see out 2017 should the Bulldogs have a slow start to the season.

Hasler was bagged by several Belmore legends last year including Terry Lamb and Steve Mortimer who both pushed for Hasler to be sacked after the Bulldogs were punted in the first week of last year’s finals.

Mortimer threatened and then quit as chairman after Hasler was retained for the final year of his contract.

“Termination of my tenure here has never been discussed,” Hasler said on Thursday afternoon.

“My ongoing contractual discussions for 2018 and 2019 are really positive, very confidential, but for 2018 and 2019 they are looking very good.

“Pressure is always on. There has been a lot said about the club and individuals, so the pressure is never really off.”

Hasler said he had no ill feelings towards Mortimer despite the four-time premiership player going as far to suggest Hasler did not understand the Bulldogs’ DNA.

“Steve Mortimer is an absolute legend of this club, and he’s contributed a lot to football, and whilst his resignation highlighted the attitude, or, his attitude towards a high standard of corporate governance, he is still very much a part of the club, particularly in a program we have going with the alumni with mentoring parts,” he said.

“I feel a little bit sorry for Steve because he is such an ornament of the game, and has been great for the game.

“I think Steve with his own admission was regretful of a couple of things said, but that happens from passion, doesn’t it?"

Conjecture still remains regarding Will Hopoate’s commitment to play Sunday games on account of his Mormon faith.

The fullback did not play on Sundays in 2016 and even missed a semi-final.

Hasler said it was undecided if Hopoate would play on Sundays this season.

“At the moment that is a discussion that we are still working on,” Hasler said. “It’s Will’s call.”
