Barba has been axed from French rugby club Toulon just half a season into a two-and-a-half $2.5 million deal because the incoming coach does not want him.

It is unknown how much Barba will be paid out but he is looking for a new gig with an NRL comeback looming.

But before he can return he must serve a 12-week suspension for returning a positive cocaine test in the days following Cronulla’s 2016 grand final triumph.

And with a string of off-field indiscretions throughout his career combined with game’s current cocaine sagas, Greenberg says he’s got a long road back.

“I said when he left he would always be welcome back, because I think rugby league is very good at giving people second opportunities,” Greenberg told Triple M’s Grill Team.

“But - here’s the but - he’s got to sit through a long opportunity sitting on the sidelines first before we even consider it.

“And there’s also some big risks for clubs who do pick him up, because clearly he’s not going to get another shot at this and his previous behaviour will be an indication of what his future behaviour will be like and there’ll be a lot of clubs thinking carefully about that.”
