A bookmaker reportedly rejected a $30,000 deposit made in to the account of Kieran Foran, police have discovered.
Fairfax Media have reported that Police examined the activity of Foran’s account whose relationship with gambling identity Eddie Hayson has become of interest to authorities.
Police announced this week that dozens of players, officials and members of the community would be interviewed as part of Strike Force Nuralda which was launched to investigate allegations of match-fixing in the NRL.
The investigation centres on the following three NRL games:
Manly’s 20-8 loss to South Sydney in Round 16 2015, their 20-16 loss to Parramatta in Round 24 2015, and their 22-10 loss to Parramatta in Round 7 this year.
Six players were allegedly paid $50,000 each to throw a match last season from a bet of $700,000 placed on one game.
Foran played for Manly in 2015 before shifting to Parramatta this season.
Auckland lawyer Don Mackinnon, who is also Foran’s godfather and current advisor, told Fairfax Media he was unaware of the bookmaker’s rejection.
"I know nothing about it," Mackinnon said. "My position is pretty simple. I'm not Kieran's agent. It's not appropriate for me to get involved in discussing these sort of issues.
"In the four to six weeks since I've started working with Kieran, his conduct and his attitude has been first class. I can't comment on anything before then."
"My goal is to help Kieran go forward and if he has to answer some issues in his past then he will do that," Mackinnon said.
"We're talking regularly and I'm hopeful he's going to keep making good decisions."
